Donald Trump explained why he believes Attorney General Loretta Lynch threatened FBI Director James Comey before he came forward with his “bombshell letter” about a new investigation into Hillary’s emails.
At a campaign rally in Colorado, Trump said again that Bill Clinton discussed more than “golf and grandchildren” with the Attorney General in the 39 minutes he spent with her aboard a plane on the tarmac.
After citing a startling statistic that 97% of the Department of Justice employees’ political donations go to Hillary Clinton, Trump put forth the proposition that Bill Clinton was offering Lynch an extension of her appointment as Attorney General.
Some political observers have gone further, noting that such high stakes in the political election connected to protecting Hillary Clinton from federal prosecution over her email practices might require an extraordinary reward, such as a Supreme Court appointment.
Trump goes on to hold this out as the reason that Attorney General Loretta Lynch attacked Director Comey about re-opening the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.
“Now, the Attorney General is fighting the FBI, because the FBI finally did what was right,” Trump said. “And also, something that should have been done a long time ago.”
As Independent Journal Review’s Jason Howerton noted earlier:
Attorney General Loretta Lynch and senior officials at the U.S. Department of Justice reportedly made it “abundantly clear” to FBI Director James Comey that they didn’t want him to inform Congress of the agency’s relaunched investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email use.
Lynch objected to the disclosure and urged him to follow DOJ protocol to avoid actions that could influence the outcome of a presidential election, ABC News reported, citing sources with knowledge of the situation.
Yahoo! News is reporting that Director Comey did not get a warrant to read emails from Anthony Weiner’s or Huma Abedin’s mobile devices, and could not even know the content of emails. Michael Isikoff writes:
When FBI Director James Comey wrote his bombshell letter to Congress on Friday about newly discovered emails that were potentially “pertinent” to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, agents had not been able to review any of the material, because the bureau had not yet gotten a search warrant to read them, three government officials who have been briefed on the probe told Yahoo News.
At the time Comey wrote the letter, “he had no idea what was in the content of the emails,” one of the officials said, referring to recently discovered emails that were found on the laptop of disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Weiner is under investigation for allegedly sending illicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl.
Relevant to probable cause and whether or not Huma Abedin or Hillary Clinton, or both, broke the law, are federal statutes such as 18 U.S. Code § 1519:
Whoever knowingly alters, destroys, mutilates, conceals, covers up, falsifies, or makes a false entry in any record, document, or tangible object with the intent to impede, obstruct, or influence the investigation or proper administration of any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States or any case filed under title 11, or in relation to or contemplation of any such matter or case, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.
What the news article fails to point out is that Huma Abedin by all appearances lied under oath about having turned over all mobile devices and laptops to the FBI. As the Daily Beast reported:
But the new information that the FBI found State Department-related email on her home laptop also calls into question whether Abedin in fact turned over all of the devices she used to send and receive email while working at State.
On June 28, 2016, Abedin said under oath in a sworn deposition that she looked for all devices that she thought contained government work on them so the records could be given to the State Department. (These records were subsequently reviewed by the FBI.)
It has been shown that Huma Abedin and Hillary Clinton sent classified information through unsecured channels. It seems to be an open-and-shut case that they knowingly destroyed or concealed government property. It is clear that they concealed information from federal investigators, thereby obstructing justice. It is strikingly apparent that there is a cover-up.
Director James Comey may be re-launching the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email case because the law dictates that government officials bring its offenders to justice. And contrary to what some politicians might have you believe, the law is an even higher authority than Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
